So, to celebrate Valentine’s Day and www.apassionforhomes.com first birthday, I thought it would be interesting to ask two famous brands if they would like to go on a blind date! Just call me Cilla or Paddy! But no first date nerves or trips to the isle of Fernando, it’s just fun.
FIRST BLIND DATE
Not everyone realises that Anglian Home Improvements can supply and fit a window to any shape required, and what better start to the date than an unusual and eye-catching,in fact my favourite shape window – an arch window! Difficult to match though surely? Over to you Hillarys…
“An arched window is a feature in itself but often poses a problem when it comes to window dressing. The trick is not to cover the beautiful architectural features but to enhance them and this can be done with made to measure shaped shutters. With moving louvres to control the light, the shutter can be designed to complement the style of the window with panels that can fold back against the wall. A shutter is as special as a new piece of furniture”
A PERFECT MATCH! Definitely a second date arranged.
SECOND BLIND DATE
So, what are the options on windows for a bathroom? Well, more than you might think! Anglian Home Improvements can supply a variety of glass patterns, but they can also supply frosted glass, either plain or with pattern or words within the design. But what is the best match in this moisture heavy room when it comes to window dressing…
“If you would really like the look of wood but with the security of aluminium in a bathroom environment, then this clever venetian has the warmth of wood in a print on the metal slat. It allows the rest of the bathroom to echo the natural wood look too”
A PERFECT MATCH! Date two already in the diary!
THIRD BLIND DATE
A beautiful bay window is a much loved feature of many period homes – I love them too! Anglian Home Improvement can fit windows to any shaped bay – turret, round, or square.
But a bay window is a difficult shape to dress – does a difficult shape mean a difficult date?!
“Always a focal point in a room, the bay window is often difficult to dress, but in this case it should be treated like three separate windows to make the most of the frames rather than hide them away. The clean lines are shown off by these vibrant roller blinds in this seasons colour, Teal. When choosing blinds for a bay window it is important to note that to get them fitted correctly, the measuring is very important to ensure they meet correctly at the corners. So don’t leave it to chance, ask Hillarys to do it for you!”
A PERFECT MATCH! – Let’s hear it for the bay – the perfect gentleman on a very sophisticated and elegant first date!
FOURTH BLIND DATE
With the continuing popularity of bringing the outside in, with the back room of the house seamlessly flowing out into the garden, there are numerous options Anglain Home Improvement can offer – patio doors, bi-fold doors, French doors – depending on the size required, the style of you house, your budget and your personal preference.
Do big doors and windows mean big problems on the date?
“A large floor to ceiling window in the lounge is a wonderful way of flooding the space with light but does need a bit of managing when it comes to light control and privacy. Here we would suggest a simple Vertical blind where the louvers can be turned to allow the sunlight in or not or they can be opened fully to show the full view out of the window and closed again when privacy is needed. In this case we have softened the edges of the doors with exciting curtains, which can then be closed against the cold at night.”
A PERFECT MATCH – a seamless partnership between indoors and outdoors, this will definitely be a lasting relationship.
FIFTH BLIND DATE
Adding an extra room to your home and adding much needed space without the expense of a full extension, orangeries, conservatories and garden rooms continue to be popular. Anglian Home Improvements have been building conservatories since 1985, and each one is custom built.
So a conservatory has many windows, and a ceiling too! This date has a lot to consider…
“When you have invested in building a new conservatory or have lived with a conservatory without any window coverings, you will know about the extremes of heat in summer and cold in winter. Blinds will help to control those extremes as well as take away the ‘goldfish bowl’ effect that uncovered glazing creates at night!”
“With pleated roof blinds, the shapes of the roof panels can be followed to maintain the beautiful look of the conservatory and the fabrics have special backings that reflect the heat away in summer and yet keep it inside in winter. And, when it comes to the sides – anything goes. Any Hillarys blind can be fitted around the sides of the conservatory but in this case we have use pleated blinds. The statement black one is a sheer fabric which still allows you to see outside through the translucent blinds and yet by choosing the striking chartreuse fabric, the inside of the conservatory is as vibrant as the garden. Of course, with a pleated blind, they can be opened fully with a small stack to allow the full view of the outside.”
PERFECT MATCH – This potentially awkward date has gone extremely smoothly – think I’ll start looking for a hat!
What a great way to end the first Brand Blind Date! Thank you to Louie Watts at Anglian Home Improvement and Sarah Quilliam at Hillarys for the match making support!
Next week’s BRAND BLIND DATE sees Carpetright getting their new bed range out and about, to be courted by bedding from Christy.
